Evocative, entertaining and instructional
I may be a little biased, having benefitted from Jim’s endless patience and knowledge on the bank when I was an aspiring teenage match angler, but his book is genuinely accessible, interesting and informative - whether you’re a keen novice looking for tips or older reader seeking nostalgia and expert advice, Jim serves it up by the bucketful. It made me smile, and - perhaps most importantly - think carefully and with fresh enthusiasm about my own approach to float fishing and the mighty waggler.

The Rising Antenna Inform,Educate and especially Entertain
It's hard to start where to compliment this book, the content Jim has included is by a who's who of star angling talent. The anglers have been tracked down to do their article which must have been no mean feat. The floats mentioned are still as relevant today as i proved, catching F1 hybrid carp on the local canal,a peacock and a modern antenna, and yes it did rise.Jim was a top angler back in the day.He proves he is a top angling writer.I just wish i had had this knowledge when the Witham and the fenland drains were the places to be.

Fascinating read
Not being an avid reader i was a little dubious about spending £20 on something i didn't expect to benefit from. It turned out to be one of the best £20's i had ever spent. I was engrossed from start to finish so much, that i read it twice! Written by an expert in this field, this book as everything for the float angler, from novice to expert. The most surprising thing about this book was the amount of secrets Jim gives away, and in such detail too. It's interesting how Jim takes you through the progression and development of techniques and various methods that have evolved over the years.
If you want to know how to fish with a float correctly, then this book is a must have.
I was so impressed i bought another copy as a gift for my father in law who is also a keen angler.

Brilliant Book
The author has a forensic look at waggler fishing like no other angling writer I can remember.  Great stories lifting the lid on some of the great anglers over several generations, and making the waggler relevant today.  My go to read.

A Forgotten Art
In these days of commercial fisheries, carpmania and pole fishing many will find this book a great insight into the not quite forgotten art of float fishing. Jim shares his depth of experience in an open and enlightening way, sharing his own tips and those of many other experts in the field. I defy anyone to read this and not be a better fisherman for it.

A book that gets you thinking
I've been fishing for over forty years, picking up hints and tips along the way from other anglers and various publications.
The way this book not only shines a light on various techniques through Jim's experiences but also through many other top anglers is both refreshing and insightful.
I have recommended this book to many of my friends and they've all thoroughly enjoyed it !
