Peter Rolfe has written about fish and fishing since 1997 and is best known for his Crock of Gold – Seeking the Crucian Carp, the only book devoted to this threatened species. Fascinated by ponds and lakes since boyhood, he has created or restored nearly fifty of them for wildlife and for fishing. He now manages two ancient estate lakes for like-minded anglers and looks after seven small ponds as a nature reserve. He still fishes but spends more time just pottering around the ponds, taking his time over coppicing and pollarding willows and still using a scythe rather than a strimmer, so that he can hear the birds. This, his fifth book, describes a long lifetime’s experiences of fishing and conservation.
